Our Season is Now Over, Club Party at Coulon Park

We want to thank you all for your hard work and diligence this year.  You can see from the updated pictures (right) that all our teams have made progress.  We began the year learning new skills.  Every practice we got better.  The elements of team play were steadily mastered, and as we became more confident of our individual- and team play, and as we learned how each player can contribute to the needs of the team, we began to play some great volleyball.

Our club goal is to develop players and teams so that we can all experience the challenges and satisfaction that comes from playing high level volleyball.  Each of our teams achieved that goal.  We have all learned that success comes from doing the little things ... "2 by 1" ... "straight and simple" ... transitions ... well.  We also learned that going through the motions isn't enough.  The brain has to be engaged, every action must be directed at the appropriate goal, and we must continually shift our focus to allow us to anticipate the next challenge as the situation rapidly changes.  These mental elements of volleyball will stay the same as we learn to jump higher, to hit and serve harder and smarter, and to dig and block increasingly tough spikes.  We will also find that as we get better, the game gets more and more challenging.  As the tempo increases, the need for accurate passing becomes more important, setting becomes more critical, and hitting and blocking will play an ever increasing role in the game.  But even so, the game still starts with a serve and a pass.

The club will have a picnic at Coulon Park in Renton on Sunday, June 14th.  We'll set up some tables, have a gas-fired stove to barbeque hotdogs or hamburgers, and play some volleyball on the grass.  Plan to arrive around 12:30 pm.  We should be done by 3:30 pm.

Have a great summer and for those of you in high school, our best wishes for a successful school volleyball season this fall!

Boys:

We continue to support boys volleyball.  The Region will be sponsoring a number of activities for boys, and we will be involved.  Opportunities range from helping to form volleyball clubs within our public high schools, to hosting clinics, to sponsoring USAV boys teams for competition wherever we can find it.

Girls:

We will have three girls teams this year.  Two U14 teams, Teal and Gold, and one U16 team.  The Head Coaches for these teams are Sally Eager (14 Teal), Bob Stewart (14 Gold), Mati Bishop (U16 Gold.)  Ed Johnson is acting as our Club Clinician and coach of the Practice Squad clinics, and he is Co-Coaching the 14 Gold squad.  With the change in date of the Yakima (Northwest) Jamboree to the end of January, we have decided to forego the event.  We plan on participating in the Region's Power League and the Regional Championships.  Teams will select four additional tournaments to complete their schedule, and they may opt to enter the Emerald City Classic depending upon interest.

Coaches:

We want individuals who want to learn and grow as coaches.  The Club will pay for training well beyond the usual IMPACT and CAP levels.  We are in the player development business, and we want coaches who have the maturity to understand that first this is a difficult, challenging, and rewarding task; and second, because it isn't easy, they know they can benefit from coaching and training also.  We require attendance at club workshops which will range from stimulating clinics to play days where we work on new drills by performing them and experiencing what actually works.  We want our staff to be a mixture of experienced and skillful volleyball players who want to learn how to be coaches, and those who may not be players but who are focused on the technical, leadership, management and motivational aspects of coaching.  Please contact us if you would like to learn more.

About Dash Pt. Volleyball Club

The purpose of the Dash Point Volleyball Club is to provide an economical and time-efficient opportunity for boys and girls to participate in Regional USA-Volleyball events.  For the 2007/2008 USA-Volleyball season, the club fielded one girls U17 team, one girls U16 team, one girls U14 team, and we had several boys who practiced with the U17s.  We plan on fielding three girls teams in the 2008/2009 season, and hopefully a boys team.

We practice on Saturday and Sunday afternoons and on Tuesday- and Wednesday evenings during the week.

Our girls teams have rosters of between 8 and 12 players, and we plan to have rosters of similar size for our Boys teams.

Although we strive to keep the costs low, the quality of the practices and our expectations for our players are high.  For the 2008-2009 season, the cost for the girls teams will not exceed $700 per player, and the boys will not exceed $200 for the standard program.  If teams elect to participate in out-of-region events they are expected to raise the funds to pay for the event.  Such fund raising needs to be done in early December, however, as many of these events fill before the new year begins.
